Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what we need to run the directory and match quote requests. When you request quotes, we share your request with up to 3 matched pros. We never sell your personal information for money, and you can access, correct or delete your information.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Housane collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use housane.com and related services (the "Services"). It applies to homeowners, visitors and the people who represent businesses listed on Housane ("Pros"). State specific details are in Your state privacy rights.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

Quote requests: name, email, phone, ZIP code, address details you choose to share, the service you need, project details, timing and contact preferences.
Accounts and listings: name, email, phone, password, business name, address, service areas, website, photos, licenses, insurance certificates and other verification documents.
Reviews and messages: reviews, ratings, photos and messages you send through the Services.
Payments: for Pros and advertisers, billing details processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
Support and surveys: what you tell us when you contact us.

Information collected automatically

Device and usage data such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, links clicked, referring pages and approximate location derived from IP.
Cookies and similar technologies, as described in our Cookie Policy.

Information from others

Public records and licensing databases we use to verify Pros, business information from public sources, and information from Pros about their customers when a review invitation is sent.

3. How we use information

Provide, operate and improve the Services, including search, listings, reviews and dashboards.
Match quote requests with Pros who may be able to help, and send your request to those Pros.
Verify Pros and review listings for our Housane Verified program.
Send service messages, such as request confirmations, account notices and receipts, including browser push notifications to Pros who turn them on.
Send marketing where permitted by law. You can opt out at any time.
Process payments, prevent fraud and spam, keep the Services secure and enforce our terms.
Analyze how the Services are used, fix problems and develop new features.
Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information in these ways:

With Pros, at your direction: when you request quotes, we share your request and contact details with up to 3 matched Pros so they can respond. Pros use this information under their own privacy practices and our Pro Terms.
Publicly: reviews, business profiles and other content you choose to post are visible to others.
Service providers: hosting, email and text delivery, payment processing (Stripe), search (our directory software provider indexes public listing content to power AI search), map tiles (OpenStreetMap), analytics, security and customer support vendors who act on our behalf under contract.
Legal and safety: to comply with law, respond to legal process, protect rights, property and safety, and investigate fraud or abuse.
Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
With your consent or at your direction in other cases.

Some analytics or advertising cookies may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under certain state laws. You can opt out as described below.

5. Your choices

Marketing emails: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.
Texts: reply STOP to any text. Reply HELP for help.
Pro contact: tell the Pro directly, or contact us to close your request.
Cookies: adjust your browser settings, and see our Cookie Policy. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as an opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising.
Account details: update them in your dashboard, or contact us.

6. Your state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to:

Know or access the personal information we have about you, and get a copy in a portable format.
Correct inaccurate personal information.
Delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling.
Limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not use it for purposes that require this right).
Appeal our decision on your request.
Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

You may use an authorized agent, who must provide proof of authorization. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and if you are not satisfied with the appeal, you may contact your state attorney general.

California notice at collection: In the last 12 months we collected identifiers, customer records, commercial information (such as plans purchased), internet activity, approximate geolocation, professional information (for Pros) and inferences, for the purposes listed in section 3, from the sources in section 2, and disclosed them to the categories of recipients in section 4. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

7. How long we keep information

We keep personal information as long as needed for the purposes in this Policy, such as keeping your account active, handling requests and reviews, meeting legal, tax and accounting duties, resolving disputes and enforcing agreements. Quote request details are generally kept for up to 3 years, then deleted or de identified, unless the law requires longer.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password.

9. Children

The Services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where state law applies). If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Where we process information

Housane is based in the United States and processes information in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy. If changes are material, we will give notice on the site or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
